At this point in time, Hartsholme were on the verge of folding, mainly through lack of players. Fox & Hound's were in a similar position, both teams playing in Division 2, so Bernie Coy got together with Keith Beaumont and agreed to join forces but carry on under the Hartsholme name. Our home pitch was at the back of Lincoln Utds ground, alongside BRSA's pitch, where we changed in a run down wooden hut with no electricity. The squad was very small......... about 12 with Simon (Coy) playing if he was back from collage at the weekends. Dougie's lad, Ken (Beaumont) played in goal and was one of the best keepers around, but he did his utmost to play out pitch each week as he fancied himself as a forward !
For a few seasons we narrowly fought off relegation from the 2nd, but by 1985 we had a bigger squad, and the first in the clubs history.......................a kit sponsor !!

1985/86 - A NEW ERA

We were now playing on the 'new' pitches opposite Hartsholme park. Dennis (Gamble) was there every game to cheer us on (or abuse us when things were going wrong!) and also, going around the spectators on the touchlines making a collection at every home game. This was a tremendous contribution to the clubs funds and we were very grateful to Dennis for his efforts and support.

It was a very up & down season, as usual, after losing 6-3 at home to Manor Utd. on the first day, then winning the next two, we played Crows Nest away, Martin was unavailable and Jamie donned the goalies gloves, thus the home sides tactic of taking long throw-ins, into our six yard box, which both defence & goalkeeper couldn't deal with, resulted in four of the eight goals they scored that day as we were hammered 8-2 !! Another disappointment was in the Ron Eaglen cup, away at Sleaford Grapes of the 4th Div. who beat us 2-1.This came 2 games into an 8 match unbeaten run in the league where by the end of November, having played 13 games, we had climbed to the top of the table, jostling neck and neck with rivals Duke William. This coincided with a new striker onboard, a young Noel Slattery, who had scored 2 on his debut in a 5-0 win against Gwynne's & finished with an impressive 6 goals in 11 games by the season end.
The unbeaten run ended on 15/2/87 at home to Plough Nettleham with a 3-2 defeat, but overall a 4th placed finish in the league with a young side, and a frontline partnership of the two Coys, Ady & Simon, who between them scored 29 goals, meant we could look forward to the 1987/88 season, with some optimism.
Another event we also were looking forward to, was a party, on the 30th May 1987, to celebrate the clubs 25th anniversary. Many of the old players were contacted by Derek (Newton) and Keith, and some played in the 'Old' boys versus the current team match, which preceded the night time bash.
